Here is a little right up for our Backcountry BBQ.

January 15, 2013, Carbondale, CO – Backcountry skiers in the Roaring Fork Valley get ready. On Saturday, February 15^th Cripple Creek Backcountry is teaming up with Meiers Skis to host a backcountry demo day sure to make any off-piste powder hound swoon. The event will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Williams Peak trailhead 2 miles off of Four Mile Road near Sunlight Ski Resort. It will include free refreshments and a grill out.

CCBC will be offering their full line of AT demos including boots, skis, bindings and skins by Dinafit, Kaestle, La Sportiva, Meier and Ski Trab. Meier representative and company spokesperson Matt Dudmord will also be offering a collection of AT and telemark setups on Meier skis. In addition to the gear demo, the trio will be hosting a fun ski mountaineering race designed to introduce beginners to the sport in a non-intimidating setting.

“We have incredible support from the local backcountry community this year,” says Doug Stenclick of CCBC. “We are looking to get out of the shop and into the snow with our customers and friends to thank them for their support, and share our love and excitement for skiing. We also have also formed a great relationship with Meier Skis and want to celebrate the local connection.”

After running a handful of demo days at local resorts, CCBC owners Randy Young and Stenclick were unsatisfied with how lift served skiing showcased their backcountry gear.  “By doing a backcountry demo day people will be able to get a true feel for how well skis travel uphill as well as down,” says Young. For both Young and Stenclick, designing lightweight backcountry setups is priority. “When we first checked out Meier skis, Doug and I were both struck at how lightweight they were,” says Young. “This event gives people the opportunity feel the difference of touring the backcountry on a lightweight ski.”

The event is BYOBG—bring your own backcountry gear, including avalanche beacon, shovel and probe. Backcountry safety items will not be available to demo.
