Mary McIntyre Ski Touring in Iceland: Episode 30

Mary McIntyre Ski Touring in Iceland: Episode 30

Freelance Photography, Writing, and Skiing

Sometimes when living in the mountains I feel that being a freelance writer or photographer just requires the audacity to call yourself one. However, when you make the leap to doing it full time, or at least for a majority of your income, the stress of never knowing when your next paycheck is coming starts to build.

This has not stopped Mary McIntyre from going for it! We really enjoyed sitting down with her as our final meet up from the winter Outdoor Retailer. I have some friends that are full professional skiers, but it is great to meet someone who is just starting out. When you listen to stories from the Dav or Glen Plake about where there next trip is in the world it is cool to hear about a peak you will never get to climb or a boat ride you will probably never afford. However, I found talk to Mary to be even more inspiring. Her laid back attitude makes far off ski destinations, like her super cool trip to Iceland seem attainable and on a budget we can all save up a little to afford.

For most people heli skiing is on the top rung of their bucket list, but why not take that two grand and invest it in a boat ride on the Aurora Arktika. Skiing off a boat will take you to new places but you still get the bonus points for human powered ascents.

Thanks for introducing me to Mary. This was a great podcast and I liked how you talked about international adventures but then took it local and to explore the adventures that are right out our back door. Can’t wait to see what 2018 podcasts have in store!
