Why We Like the Atomic Backland 78 Alpine Touring Ski

Whether you're heading out for a spring ski mountaineering epic or an early morning resort lap, the Backland 78 touring ski is a capable, lightweight partner. The Backland 78 touring skis are one of the best price-performing touring skis in Atomic's Backland lineup. With its slender 78mm underfoot layout, this lightweight ski (1200g at 170cm) soars uphill and gives a capable ride down.

Featuring a dura cap sidewall and HRZN tip technology, the Backland 78 planes through fresh snow. The all mountain rocker coupled with the narrow waist maintain stability in variable snow while the 17.5m turn radius and low swing weight make it easy to maneuver through tight trees or narrow couloirs. The Backland 78 has all the best features from the Backland series at a low price point.

Huge fan of this ski. I mounted this bad boy up with light binding and this became my go to training ski for fitness. It's so fast and light, yet skis surprisingly well. I'm a huge fan of the shape and general performance. Typically with small skis, you're conceding that you'll be "surviving on the down". The Backland 78 gives me much more confidence than expected and I actually enjoy skiing down having raced up the hill so fast!
