Great fit out of the box at 30.5 with the $50 sole inserts recommended by sales associate. I’ve used them for 3 days of spring downhill skiing at Snowmass to break them in, and they’ve been very effective in various ice/crud conditions on hanging valley wall and cirque, as well as good support on groomers. They felt broken in and just as comfortable, if not more, than my alpine boots on day 1. Given they perform so well for downhill, it’ll be a tough choice to switch back to alpine! Looking forward to more uphill use.
Scarpa Maestrale RS Touring Boot
These are working perfect in the first week for already 3 types of activities
- backcountry touring
- ice climbing with BD steel crampons
- downhill skiing abasin Zuma cornice with atomic bechentler 100mm underfoot skis
Very pleased with the RS boot. Replacing a two buckle Salomon s/lab boot I had skied for 3 seasons. I went up a half size here gaining a bit more width and needed length for comfort. The add buckle is a noticeable improvement both up hilling and resort skiing as an alpine boot. The boot is lightweight, stiff, comfortable, full of adjustment options, plenty warm but no overheating and appears to be a well made, sturdy boot. Easy buckle systems are a priority and this boot works great. The XT would be overkill for me. Couldn't be happier. Great looking boot a plus.
I really really love these boots. They fit great (love the intuition liner) and ski great too! I don't know if I can go back to another style either- the instep buckle is the first one I've used, and it's totally prevented me from getting heel blisters. Easy Walk mode, stiff progressive flex. I highly reccomend this even as a resort boot if comfort combined with performance is your forte.
This boot tours well and has great downhill performance. Purchased for times when the race set up is too light and has been great for spring outings paired with a lighter ski and and binding, and for powder days paired with bigger boards. Very comfortable after heat molding (used the home kit since in-person isn't possible now). Would be entirely content with this as my only boot if I didn't like to race.
