G3 ZED 9 Alpine Touring Binding

The G3 ZED 9 Alpine Touring Binding is new to the 20/21 season to provide lighter backcountry skiers with a more accommodating alpine tech binding. It's the same tried and true technology of G3's Zed 12, but with more forgiving internal springs to allow for a lower release value range (3-9).

The Zed toe is a minimalist design with robust construction. They created a simple, minimal boot stopper at the front of the toe for guiding your boot into place in one simple step. No fussing around trying to fit your toe in the pins of the tech binding. G3 also cut out all the material under the toe springs to shave a little more weight [compared to the toe piece of the ION). This also helps stick your pole underneath the springs if it ices up during extremely cold and wet weather.

The ZED heel is a lightweight, fully-featured design a single screw adjustment for lateral and vertical release. There is 30 mm of length adjustment to allow for a wider range of boots. The heel turret allows for both clockwise and counter-clockwise rotation when switching to touring. The new slimmed-down heel lifts allow for quick pole lifts when climbing and changing slope angles on your approach. This heel piece also features an elastic travel spring that moves when your ski flexes, which helps keep the binding at a consistent release value.
The ZED is compatible with all ION crampons and crampon hardware. The ZED is no longer sold with a leash cable, however, you do have the option to add any size brake for additional purchase if you would like the added security.
If you want a binding that is lightweight, but still has elastic travel in the heel, the G3 ZED 9 is a great option for lightweight users. Otherwise, look to the ZED 12 for a larger release value range.
