The Black Diamond Cirque 78 is the lightest mountaineering and fitness touring ski made by the Salt Lake City based brand. This ski is for the weight-conscious backcountry user that wants ski tracks to feel like escalators and for their body to turn into a well-tuned, uphill skiing machine.
The Cirque series construction starts with an engineered paulownia wood core paired with an elastomeric (rubber) dampening layer. Titanal mounting plates are placed underfoot on the core for binding screw retention. Then a unidirectional carbon fiber/fiberglass weave is added for improved torsional rigidity. Semi-capped ABS sidewalls are added along with a high-density PTEX 4500 base. Tip notches and ABS tail protectors are added to the finished ski for various tip attachment methods. The Cirque 78 touring ski has a traditional construction that makes this featherweight package handle the downhill with confidence (and maybe a few smiles as well).
With a 10/85/5 profile, the Cirque 78 has a 10% tip rocker, an 85% traditional camber, and a 5 % semi-rockered tail. This shape allows for easy turn initiation, torsional rigidity, and a balanced flex profile. If you are looking for fitness resort laps or long-distance speed touring, grab a pair of Cirque 78's. Don't forget to pair them with a full spandex speed suit, a respectable charcuterie board, and full days of efficient travel in the mountains.
