Description
The G3 Ion is a combo of current tech-fit bindings with great new ideas from G3. With the Ion touring binding, G3 thought of everything, i.e. Boot Stop guidance to eliminate embarrassing, gaper-like fumbling while stepping-in. Easy rotation, in either direction, on the heel unit with three simple, flip of your pole, climbing heights making tour mode fast and easy. The Ion weighs only 585 grams with a brake and release value of 12; its the lightest binding in its category. Not only is the Ion simple, its also built for charging, with a 30% wider hole pattern than traditional tech bindings and forward pressure springs in the heel unit to allow for ski flex. Additionally, beefed up toe springs with an ice clearing channel ensure once you're in, you're in. The right price, the right functionality, the right binding.

So easy to use

Ion-charged and ready to roll. So easy to get in and out of, and it skis GREAT. When G3 came out with this binding, I was skeptical because of how bad the Onyx was, but let me tell you- this is the single easiest to use touring binding I have ever used. It's a general consideration that typically a tech binding won't ski as well as an alpine binding, but there is actually forward pressure on the Ion, and it skis really really well. 5 stars, 2 thumbs up.

Really easy and solid bindings

This is my first touring binding, and I wanted a binding that is easy to use, but could also hold up to abuse and give me control and confidence on the downhill. I'm 6'5", 220 lbs, and I run my alpine DIN at 12, so the Ion 12 made sense for me because it really does all of the above well. The toe piece was the selling point for me, because it's far easier to step into the the Dynafit toe I tried. I also like the fact that the heel tower turns either direction when putting it into walk, because I have a hard time rotating my right wrist clockwise due to injury. The heel risers are very easy to flip with my pole basket. These bindings feel very secure and solid when I'm descending, and so far I've taken a couple falls and they released cleanly. Definitely impressed with the Ion 12...
