Why We Like the Atomic Backland Carbon Alpine Touring Boots (2024)
The Atomic Backland Carbon Alpine Touring Boot's reputation as an ultra-light all-around touring machine is well-deserved. Don't assume that a boot in this weight class can't steer effectively, though. Stiff carbon cuff materials, ergonomic 3D liner, and a low-volume, responsive fit create a surprisingly high level of downhill power and steering.
Uphill efficiency and downhill power have been historically hard to find in the same boot. With a powerful 110 flex rating, the Backland Carbon has plenty of power to steer all-mountain skis, but is light enough to serve as a training boot for skimo racing or training. An all-new cross-lacing closure system creates firm and secure heel hold and hugs the midfoot evenly. A fully heat-moldable 3D liner with breathable panels to let excess heat escape keeps you warm, comfortable, and dry during prolonged uphill efforts.
