Why We Like the Atomic Backland Sport Alpine Touring Boot
The Atomic Backland Sport delivers the performance of a touring boot while maintaining a low cost of entry. This is a great boot for ski enthusiasts that are starting to make their way uphill.
The Backland line of boots was developed by Atomic to combine the benefits of lightweight touring boots with the power of bigger and heavier boots. Committed BC skiers rejoiced when these boots came out because they deliver on their promise of exceptional lightweight and tremendous power because of the tall cuff and backbone feature. Atomic calls it the Energy Backbone, which is a reinforced section of both the lower shell and the cuff that provides lateral and forward support.
The Backland Sport fits into the line as the lower cost, even-flexing PU version perfect for advanced skiers that expect performance from a boot but are just starting to tour. The last is on the narrow side (98mm), but the shell can be punched up to 6mm for a custom fit. The pre-shaped 3D Gold liner has an anatomical heel pocket and is fully heat moldable to further customize the comfort of this high performance entry-level boot.
I just got into this sport with my wife last winter and found this to be a great option. We couldn't spend a lot of money on 2 setups but this was a great boot we actually both wound up using in different sizes! We both have narrow feet and are intermediate skiers and in our 50s. Don't know much but had a great time. Looking forward to more use this winter and getting more stuff from Cripple Creek!!!
