Black Crows Vastus Freebird Skis

Ask a Question

Black Crows Joins the under 1000 club with the Vastus. This amazing climbing ski uses the same style and construction as the Black Crows Freebird ski, to make a piece of equipment that climbs like a Skimo race set-up but will out perform most race style mountaineering skis. The Vastus uses a Poplar Paulownia wood core and combines Carbon Fiber and a Titinal plate to improves it's rigidity and Binding retentions when cruising at higher speeds in variable conditions. The Vastus boast an short 17m turn radius to provide perfect edge to edge contact when making alpine style turns down steep terrain. Paired perfectly with Black Crow Climbing skins From Pomoca.

Setup with Plum 120 race bindings and Dynafit Carbonios. Use them to skin up front side for fitness. So light and nimble uphill and the rocker helps get on edge downhill. Awesome ski and setup. The Cripple Creek team are amazing so it all fits perfectly!

Fantastic ski for the weight

I love this ski! I’ve had it for 3 seasons and I use it primarily for skinning up the resort, easy hut trips, and gentle tours with one of my twins on my back. It skis well for its weight and in the 171 length I have enough edge to manage steep terrain. For reference: 5’7” 145 lbs and I have the 171

Vastus Freebird

Fantastic ski if you like semi soft skis. Not quite as light as a race ski but it’s ski’s infinitely better.
