Black Diamond Helio Carbon 88 Alpine Touring Ski
The Black Diamond Helio Carbon 88 is an ideal candidate for all-day touring and technical ski objectives. The 88 mm waist width is paired with tip and tail rocker to make for improved flotation and easy turn initiation. So when the going gets steep and/or deep (and we all hope that it does!), the Helio Carbon 88 can still handle the aforementioned gnar.
The Helio Carbon Series starts with an engineered paulownia wood core wrapped in a bidirectional carbon fiber/fiberglass laminate. The bidirectional layup and improved wood core increase the downhill skiing performance [and overall weight] of these skis compared to the former Helio models. A full ABS sidewall wraps the perimeter which is a luxury for a ski of this width. The full perimeter sidewall greatly increases durability and dampening. The Helio Carbon's are finished off with a round tip and ABS tail protector to allow for standard climbing skin attachment mechanisms.
The Helio Carbon 88 has a 15/80/5 profile with a sizeable 15% rockered tip, a traditional 80% camber underfoot, and a 5% semi-rockered tail. This shape will help keep the tips above powder and variable snow 'chop' while allowing for smooth and friendly turning capability. Black Diamond suggests the optimal use for these sticks to be 30% soft snow, 70% hard snow - but don't limit yourself to the proclamations of the Man[ufacturer]. Grab yourself some Helio Carbon 88's if you are interested in nimble, easy-to-ski, slender-waisted, carbon-impregnated touring skis. These skis are perfect for long days in the mountains where you can rely on your skis to manage just about any snow conditions, all the while taking you up skin tracks with an [almost] effortless pleasure.
