Dynafit has always pushed the limits of what is possible on tech gear and the P49 is no exception. Short for 'Project 49' and symbolic of the ridiculously low 49 grams that each binding weighs, this new binding system is designed to be the lightest and fastest ever. The secret is in the toe. Instead of your boot stepping in and getting clamped in to the toe piece, your boot actually expands the toe until it locks into metal 'pins'. A threaded lever can be oriented one of two ways so that it is either locked for climbing or releasable for skiing downhill.
On the other side of the binding, the heel piece of the P49 consists of a carbon fiber tower that clamps your ski boot into place in ski mode while still providing vertical and horizontal release. For climbing, simply flip down the riser and it will prevent the heel from locking into place. Once again, Dynafit has changed the game by cutting the weight of race bindings in half. If you plan on challenging for the podium this Skimo season then the P49 will give you a leg up on the competition.
