Boot Fitters Advice

Why We Like the Dynafit TLT8 Expedition CR

The TLT8 Expedition has been revamped in all the right ways for 2020. If you are looking for a medium flex boot that demands only the best from the skin track, the Expedition is exactly what you are looking for. A 60 degree cuff articulation and a forward lean of either 11 or 16 degrees gives you optimal performance both on the uphill and downhill.

Dynafit reworked their entire TLT line for the 2020 season by breaking down the boots weak points and improving where necessary. First step was doing away with the wired cuff strap and adding a ladder buckle to increase the durability of the TLT8. This allows the Expedition to withstand a much higher force when reaching down on the cuff for an optimal stiffness and fit.

The TLT8 still features the 1 buckle system, the Ultra-Lock 4.0, to make it easy to go from walk to ski mode in a matter of seconds. the Speed-nose that is not new to Dynafit's line helps create a more natural feel when skinning up the track. And finally the Pomoca rubber sole allows you to walk and climb over any obstacle in your path.

  • Boot for the long expeditions and majestic views
  • Singular lever for quick transition between walk and ski mode
  • 60 degree cuff rotation for efficient touring
  • 15-18 degree forward lean
  • Pomoca Climb sole, Custom Ready liner, and Grilamid Fiberglass Shell for superior traction, comfort, and durability
  • TLT (Tech) Binding Compatible

Good boot, short fit

Had this boot out a handful of long tours and inbounds days. It fits shorter that other brands and I needed it punched for extra toe length. Boot is wide in the forefoot as advertised. I enjoy its lightness and uphill mobility, and skis well enough for me having a plastic tongue (last boots were tongueless).

Excellent Service

I purchased a complete AT setup for this coming season. Peter spent the time to explain to me the trade-offs and ensure that I had a great fit. I highly recommend Peter and Cripple Creek Backcountry!

I LOVE these boots! The fit is really great! Thank you Doug, for your great advice on fit. I am glad that I got the very slightly tight ones because my foot and heel is well-supported and you were absolutely right about wanting that boot not to slip during assent. The heat molding worked very well for me and your trick with the toe inserts gave me that teeny little bit more room I needed in the toe. We had the most amazing hut trip and my gear was perfect. Thanks again! Cynthia

A beyond great boot !

Bought the TLT 8's about a few weeks ago and now have at least 10+ days of skinning with them. Best AT-boot I have ever owned since the TLT-5. Please see extensive review of this boot in issue # 129-2019 Backcountry Magazine. I agree with every word in this very positive review of the boot. Check it out. For all day backcountry skiing and inbound resort training days, this boot does it all. It's plenty lightweight. The two buckle boot system really works, and is very easy to operate. The cuff strap stays put without ever sliding up my lower leg. The boot itself is stiff enough for most skiers and can easily drive and control any ski from 69 to a 100 under foot. For a wider ski, you may wish to try a beefier boot such as the Hoji or similar. For a race like the Power of Four, this boot would work great, unless you have aspirations of being very competitive. Then a pure super lightweight dedicated race boot, would be a better choice. When it comes to fit everybody is different, but what I did was to buy the boot on the small side with me being able to get one finger between the back of my heel and the back of the shell when standing with my foot in the shell only. This would be considered a "performance" fit as opposed to a "comfort fit". The boot felt very, very snug initially, with two pretty uncomfortable pressure points, one over my lateral malleolus (outer ankle bone) where I have a large bone outcropping as a result of a previous ankle fracture and one over the outer side of my 5th toe. The shell and the liner lends itself very easily to a punch and molding and after a couple of progressive punches by the shop and just using the boot up on the mountain, I now have a pair of boots that fit like a pair of very comfortable worn in gloves. Heel grip is solid, as is everything else. No pressure points. I wear a pretty thin sock and have never been cold. I can't give this boot a high enough recommendation !
