Guide Shadow Day

Backcountry touring: It's the quest for alpine solitude with your friends, untracked snow in every direction, and the satisfaction of human-powered skiing.

But where do I go? Isn't there avalanche danger out there? How do I know what's safe? And where do I actually find that untracked powder?

That's why Cripple Creek Backcountry is partnered with Aspen Expeditions: to make sure you can make the most of your backcountry ski gear! A Guide Shadow Day will help you build the skills necessary to plan your own backcountry tour. Let trained ski guides help you and your ski partners learn the skills necessary to plan, execute, and enjoy a day touring in the backcountry.

The AMGA-certified mountain guides at Aspen Expeditions will teach you how to:

  • Plan a backcountry ski tour by learning how to read avalanche forecasts, understand terrain and backcountry access, and safely build a backcountry touring plan for the day
  • Assess terrain in the backcountry in order to manage avalanche hazard and safely travel through the mountains
  • Debrief on your backcountry experience to learn how to evaluate risk and build a lifelong practice of backcountry learning

This is a valuable experience to learn how to travel in the backcountry from a trained professional. Build the skills necessary to plan a backcountry tour, safely manage avalanche terrain, and of course, [responsibly] RIDE UNTRACKED POWDER.
