Intro to AT / Splitboard Gear and Skinning
This course is perfect for those that just purchased gear from us and want to learn the proper way to use it from seasoned professional guides in the Aspen mountains.
Looking for a different day? With a 4 person minimum we can do custom trips.
Thisintroductory course will focus entirely on your new Alpine Touring (AT) or Splitboard gear and all the many techniques involved with skinning, skiing and transitions from one to another. This course is offered through our partners at Aspen Expeditions. Professional AE guides will help you understand your new equipment and the nuances of each brand / model and how to use it properly.
We will meet at 8:30 am at the base of the Gondola and then proceed to the top of Aspen Mountain and out Richmond Ridge. We willNOT be skiing in avalanche terrain and will not be in need of carrying avalanche safety equipment. For this course, you have the option to purchase a “one ride” lift ticket for the Gondola for $41. Please clickhere to purchase thatbefore the day of the course. Your instructors will bring you your lift pass.
We will spend the short 4-5 hour day working on our gear understanding and skinning techniques. Please pack enough water and food to be outside for the 4-5 hours with us. If you need any of the gear (listed below), please let us know beforehand by giving us a call at our Highlands location: (970) 925-7710 orinfo@cripplecreekbc.com.
Everyone must fill out an Aspen Expeditions Waiver prior to their outing - clickHERE

Uphill climbing skins
Ski Poles or collapsable splitboard poles
AT boots or snowboard boots
Backpack (large enough to fit all your layers, food, water and skins INSIDE the pack)
Layers, layers, layers! (Be prepared for life in the mountains - one moment you are hot as you are working hard ascending a steep slope, the next you are cold & shivering as you transition to downhill mode!)

Food & Water
Eye Protection (sunglasses and/or goggles)

Penny and I participated with Steve Denny yesterday to get a basic rundown on the do’s & don’ts of backcountry skiing. Penny embraced the opportunity to get oriented with her new Cripple Creek AT set up and she loved it. The course was basic but beneficial. We look forward to many more backcountry experiences. We have confidence that our new AT gear will perform as designed. Thank you to TJ & Paris and shout out to Dirk at Aspen Expeditions for getting us in the appropriate course for our needs. Steve Denny was awesome! Highly recommended!
The Intro course was great. They were very adaptive to different levels and had a ton of insight and tips.
Scott was great. Learn a lot and had a ton of fun.
