Uphill Training Package
Many alpine skiers that spend time riding the lifts have witnessed the growing trend of 'uphill skiing' at their favorite resort. They immediately grasp the fitness benefits of going uphill as a complement to their alpine skiing.
Atomic Backland UL 78 Ski
The Atomic name in skiing is synonymous with elite ski athletes, speed, precision, and performance. It should come as no surprise that Atomic has entered the backcountry market with solid products that are quickly becoming shop favorites. The Atomic Backland UL 78 is quite possibly the perfect daily-trainer. It is the lightest in the Atomic Adventure Touring series weighing 980g in the 163cm length allowing you to get to the peak in top times when speed is your goal. The Karuba and Poplar core reinforced with carbon stringers allows the ski to remain ultralight while retaining critical strength and rigidity. The 78mm waist gives the ski mobility and nimbleness while the 15/85 All Mountain Rocker adds both float and pop in soft snow. The Step Down Sidewalls ensure control, edge grip, and dampness on even the iciest downhills. Intentionally not as narrow and light as Atomic's race skis, the Atomic Backland UL 78 is a step above in its versatility, handling and skiing performance for serious uphill fitness training.
Atomic Backland Tour Binding and Brake
In the last few years, Salomon has invested heavily in developing tech bindings that are either big, burley and adaptable or small, elegant and light. In collaboration with Atomic, they are offering the Atomic Backland Tour Binding (Black-Gray version), a lightweight, fully featured design. (Can also be purchased as the Salomon MTN Binding, Black-Blue version). These beautifully machined steel & aluminum bindings weigh-in at less than 300 grams. The reasons many of us like these bindings center around ease-of-use and full functionality at a low weight. The toe piece includes four springs for powerful attachment and a metal toe-stop to guide your foot into the pins, which is especially helpful if its your first experience with tech bindings. The heel unit comes standard with an adjustment plate offering a 30 mm range in Boot Sole Lengths in case you change boots over the life of the skis and bindings.
Dynafit TLT 8 Expedition CR Boot
The TLT 8 Expedition M's and TLT 8 Expedition W's boots are light enough to inspire you to go uphill, yet supportive enough to command a turn. The Mens weighs-in perfectly at 1200g (size 27.5), and the Women’s TLT8 Expedition weighs in at a svelte 1050g (size 25.5). Lucky girls! The nice thing about the 'Expedition' version of these boots is that they have a relatively cushy and warm liner, two things that are important to anyone's feet. You will also truly enjoy the natural walking-feeling of the 60-degree articulation of the cuff in walk-mode. The Dynafit TLT8 Expedition design features include: One buckle to go from walk to ski mode (Dynafit calls it Ultra Lock 4.0), a wide, 103mm last allowing metatarsal bones to comfortably spread out during the dynamic sport of uphilling, and an easy to adjust power strap to lock in your lower leg for the descent.
