Why We Like the Weston Hatchet Splitboard

The Weston Hatchet is the definition of freestyle snowboarding in the backcountry. Whether you want to land spins or big airs, this board gives you the stability you need! The Hatchet is a volume-shifted board designed to be ridden significantly shorter than a traditional board due to its short fat design.

The twin powder camber profile allows riders to freeride any mountain terrain. The short fat volume shifted board design allows the rider to retain effortless float and stability in deep powder while increasing control and maneuverability in tight situations. The near-centered stance allows for simple spin capabilities. Did someone say butter? With its twin blunt nose and tail, you can spin and butter until the snow has melted.

This Weston splitboard is a twinish symmetrical shape that encourages a surfy and playful riding style. Yet very easy to ride for beginners as well. The Hatchet boasts a 7/10 flex that perfectly balances playfulness and power, ready for big drops, pillow lines, spins, and more. All this helps the Hatchet pop pillows all day long and stomp powder landings easily.

The Hatchet is your board for those looking to push their freestyle riding into the backcountry and slay deep powder. Riders should size down significantly on this splitboard.

    A win for volume shift

I rode the Hatchet one day in mixed conditions and had a great time. I found the board is a little slow on turn initiation but ultimately quite fun and playful once you get the feel for it. The construction is bomber and the volume-shifted design really makes this board float. Up in the alpine where the wind had hammered the snow, the Hatchet always felt solid underfoot and I was happy for the shorter board length when it came to maneuverability. I found pockets of knee-deep pow lower down in sheltered areas and was stoked to enjoy the more freestyle spirit of the Hatchet. Would love to get out on it again sometime!
