We know ‘backcountry skiing’ may sound intimidating... so we built this course with Aspen Expeditions to get more women safely and confidently pursuing the 'backcountry', with other like-minded babes.
Come join us for a one-day ‘Intro to Backcountry’ course, geared specifically towards women to give light to what it means to ski beyond the resort boundaries. Gain knowledge and understanding of basic winter backcountry travel and safety skills. (This class is an excellent pre-cursor to taking your AIARE Level 1 Avalanche course).
We will begin by discussing what constitutes ‘proper’ gear in the backcountry, including clothing, equipment, packs, etc. Learn how to plan for trips and how to recognize and safely travel through avalanche terrain. This class will provide you with the basics to take your ‘uphilling’ off-piste.
Activity Level: Easy-Moderate [Participants should be able to do light/moderate cardio at altitudes ranging between 9,000’-12,500’, as well as ski green to blue runs in varying elements.]
Time/Place: Meet at 8:30 am at Aspen Expeditions located in the Aspen Highlands Base Village, directly across from the main ticket office. Day will run until approximately 4 pm.
Other Details: Please be prepared with plenty of food & water, as well as clothing layers to spend the majority of the day outside.
