The Fitwell Freeride is the pinnacle in design for traditional splitboard mountaineering boots. These boots are rich with features and the base of every other brand's design. Fitwell specializes in mountaineering boots which is why they are semi-automatic crampon compatible. The stiff shank allows for true mountaineering and climbing security. Denali boot anyone?

This freeride boot offers a medium flex for riders when fully secured in the boots. The multi-layer structured design provides the most even and balanced flex of any splitboard mountaineering boot. The liner is a plush thermo-moldable liner packed with memory foam ensuring performance.

Fitwell designed this boot to tour uphill. The ascent is facilitated by a flexible collar and dual power straps. The anti-slip outsole is packed with glass powder in specific sections which are green vs black. The mountaineering sole with a full wrap rand ensures longevity and performance for seasons to come. Don't discount the quality of the Freeride boot that is the choice of many riders looking to bag summits and big backcountry lines.

      Solid and Secure

The Freeride boots have proved to be great. I’ve ridden in them forty seven days now and they continue to be pretty darn tight. With four Velcro straps, a liner cinch, and traditional laces you can really dial in how tight you want them to be. The soles provide great traction on icy slopes and with the heel welt fitting nicely into semiautomatic crampons. They’re great for kicking steps and are made for the mountaineering side of snowboarding. They ride downhill pretty darn well too!

      Almost perfect

Bought these for a trip to Mt. Rainier and was super happy I did. I haven't been one for hardboots so it was important to me to find a softboot that took a semi-auto crampon well. These boots were great for cramponing and the stiff sole/toe cap made them great for kicking steps as well. They were the only shoe I wore for 3 days straight on the trip and my feet stayed quite happy.

They ride about as well as my Vans Verse and are a bit stiffer. You can control the flex pretty well by how tight you lace them up and how tight you pull the power strap.

Two things can be improved upon. First, the walk mode gives very marginal improvement on the range of motion while walking. I feel like this could easily be improved with a stretchier material on the back of the boot. Second, these boots are a bit heavy - they would benefit greatly from a weight reduction. That's probably easier said than done.

So far so good, only 1 tour in them. Very comfortable and they fit like a dream.

Spring touring has really just begun so I’m excited to get many more days in these and see how they hold up.
