It is perfectly suited for any backcountry task because it packs down into even the smallest of packs thanks to Black Diamond's Z-Pole technology and weighs less than your usual pole set up thanks to the carbon construction. This is a four segment pole that folds down and wraps up in a low-profile design. If you think deploying this pole will be an issue, think again, the Compactor comes with a speed cone that allows it to be deployed in seconds. It also comes with a powder basket for those deep days and the touring series grip and strap allow for ergonomic handling, even lower on the shaft.
