Spark R&D Surge ST Pro Splitboard Binding

The Spark R&D Surge ST Pro Splitboard Binding is the premium version of Spark's stiff binding for splitboarders who ride steep, technical lines and want the most response at the lowest weight. Carbon-reinforced nylon highbacks, Pebax Pillow Line straps, 7075 aluminum heel loops and aluminum hardware cut weight from the Surge without softening it. At 610 g per binding in a Medium, with Tesla T1 touring and an ST Whammy Bar at 12 and 18 degrees, the Surge ST Pro suits steep lines, long approaches and big objectives.

Why We Like It

  • Carbon-reinforced nylon highbacks are lighter and stiffer than Spark's glass-reinforced highbacks, for quick response on steep terrain.
  • Pebax Pillow Line straps hold their flex in the cold, and the wide Surge ankle strap supports the boot all the way around.
  • 7075-T6 aluminum hardware replaces seven stainless steel parts, with hex heads that resist stripping and hollow pivot pins.
  • Smooth Touring brackets and the ST Whammy Bar keep the touring side quiet, with risers at 12 and 18 degrees.

Best Uses

  • Steep and technical lines
  • Long approaches to big objectives
  • Aggressive riders who want less weight
  • Stiff boards
  • Soft boot splitboarders, XS to Large

Mounting and Setup Advice

Spark sizes its bindings in one unisex line from XS to Large, so choose on boot size; the 610 g figure is for a Medium.

On the board side, the binding needs Spark Flat Pucks or Spark Canted Pucks, sold separately, and then works with any puck-compatible splitboard. If you are mixing hardware generations, ST bindings need ST Whammy Bars, while ST bindings run on older Tesla brackets. Bring your board in so we can set puck placement and stance.

Mounting and setup guidance reviewed by CCBB splitboard staff. Confirm interface and stance against your board before drilling.

Common Questions

Who should buy the Spark R&D Surge ST Pro Splitboard Binding?
The Spark R&D Surge ST Pro Splitboard Binding suits splitboarders who ride steep, technical lines and want Spark's stiffest binding at 610 g per binding in a Medium. Carbon-reinforced highbacks and Pebax straps keep the response high and the weight down.
What boots and boards work with the Spark R&D Surge ST Pro Splitboard Binding?
The Spark R&D Surge ST Pro takes soft snowboard boots only. It is a splitboard soft binding and is not compatible with ISO, GripWalk, pin-tech or telemark bindings or the boots that use them. On the board side it needs Spark Flat Pucks or Spark Canted Pucks, sold separately, and then works with any puck-compatible splitboard.
Do I need to buy anything else?
Yes, pucks. The Surge ST Pro comes with the bindings, ST Brackets, T1 Heel Rests, aluminum mounting screws and a Spark Pocket Tool. Spark Flat or Canted Pucks are sold separately.
Will these work with my older Spark parts?
Partly. ST bindings work only with ST Whammy Bars, so a standard Whammy Bar from a 2021/22 or older T1 binding will not fit. ST bindings do run on older Tesla brackets with brass bushings, and older T1 bindings run on ST brackets.
How is the Surge ST Pro different from the Surge ST?
Same geometry and stiffness, with carbon-reinforced highbacks, Pebax straps, 7075 aluminum heel loops and aluminum hardware. That brings it to 610 g per binding in a Medium against 689 g for the Surge ST.
How much does the Surge ST Pro weigh?
610 g per binding in a Medium.

Our Verdict

The Spark R&D Surge ST Pro Splitboard Binding pairs Spark's stiff Surge geometry with carbon-reinforced highbacks, Pebax straps and aluminum hardware for 610 g per binding in a Medium. The Tesla T1 touring side with Smooth Touring brackets is the same as the rest of the line. Riders who want a surfier ride should look at the Arc ST Pro; riders who want a stiff binding without the weight should start here.
