Weston Backwoods Carbon Splitboard

My Vibe:

I’m 5’9”, 170lbs, SZ10 and have been riding for 20 years, the last 3 being focused on splitboarding with Weston. My riding style is aggressive turns and playful hits. I like a board that can float but is begging to be taken off a cliff or side hit. I ride a 157 in resort, the 160 for my split.

Board Attributes:

The nose is slightly longer and wider than the tail. When standing on this directional board and looking down, it’s noticeable that the nose is a big spoon and the tail is a smaller in length and width.

The nose is slightly more flexible than the tail, while the center section under the feet remains nice and rigid.

The carbon makes the long tours less daunting and the legs a bit happier. The ride is slightly more chattering when faced with really shitty terrain, but I’ve also never experienced enough to make a difference. The carbon often comes with me during regular season.

What does this mean for riding?

The bigger nose with the slight rise REALLY shines during any fresh lines thru powder, but really clutch for those low angle resort days or touring a meadow to keep from “digging in”.

The smaller tail really helps the rear of the board drop into the powder as the nose rises up, giving you a nice stable and centered stance to crush powder without flying over the nose, not too mention smooth as butter turns and MASSIVE pow slashes. The shape of the deck holds a damn good edge in anything from flat ice to steep corn.

I really enjoy the stronger construction under the feet as it gives some dampening when things get fast or variable snow conditions.

The carbon is light!!! Super fun and nimble.

Touring Bonuses: Toe mounts are slightly forward so nose naturally comes up first when skin is raised in tour mode.

Weston skin partnership with pomoca. Seamless integration with the board and skins, this is the deciding factor for most people. Once you have a dedicated hole in the board with a custom tail
Clip, everything else is inferior.

Did I mention how light it is ?

When I grab this board:

Deep powder day at the local spots

Long Tours focused on floating and deeper powder

Low angle meadow days and walking around with good float

My 2 cents:

I love this board in anything from a couple inches to a couple feet. The big nose assures me that I’ll be able to shred and stay on top for powder days. I ride this the most at my local Tour spots. It really does it all. I love the narrow tail. Size up a few cm to get more float in your tour or go with a WIDE.

My favorite splitboard ever! I'm a huge fan of the backwoods shape for an everyday snowboard. The carbon version is worth the extra money for the improved performance and lighter weight. If you only have one snowboard, this should be it!

I bought this board for my husband and it’s quickly become his go-to splitboard for nearly all of our backcountry missions. He’s been riding it in all kinds of terrain and conditions and keeps raving about how reliable, fun, and versatile it is. Out of the four splitboards he’s owned, this one is hands down his favorite. He loves it so much he’s now eyeing the solid version to use as his inbounds daily driver!

after a few seasons on the backwoods split i decided to save some weight and get the carbon. noticeable lighter yet still predictable the carbon was worth it

The backwoods excels in all conditions. The carbon construction combined with the shape and hardware layout makes the uphill smooth and efficient. From big spring lines to deep mid winter tree riding, this board is wildly fun. I’ve put it through the wringer for numerous years and it’s still in great shape. Would recommend this board to anyone looking to enjoy the backcountry.

This is my go-to for longer days in the backcountry. The added weight savings is a plus for me and I overall love the Backwoods shape, feel, and ride. It crushes all the conditions and terrain that I've had the pleasure of taking it in. Highly recommend this board!

Extremely lightweight. almost shocking the first time you pick it up. Pairs really well with a hard boot setup for even more weight savings. Ideal for long days, traverses, and expeditions where it really counts. Even on smaller days doing yoyo laps with the Savings you can find yourself sneaking in one extra lap!

the carbon construction provides a reliable and damp ride while not compromising strength for weight savings. Weston has outdone themselves with the Backwoods Carbon. Ive put a this bad boy to the test from Coast to coast from Mythic days in AK to bashing ice and rock in the East. I haven't found a day where I've been disappointed with my ride.

The Backwoods Carbon has been my daily driver splitboard for 3 years now. For me it has struck the perfect balance of strength and maneuverability. It's nimble enough for mid-winter Colorado tree skiing, but is reliable when it's time to get it into steep lines. Although I feel this board gets marketed as a pow board often, I've found it to be a solid, predictable, do-it all shape.

Each time I transition to uphill, I am reminded of this board's feather-like weight beneath my feet. For riders looking to tour in a variety of terrain - I can't recommend the Backwood's Carbon enough. I have used this for long-volcano descents, ridge traverses, tree skiing, powder laps, and all the in between.
