Spark R&D NR Pro Bindings

The Spark R&D NR Pro Bindings are Nick Russell's pro model splitboard binding for riders who want a stiff, damp platform with a highback they can rotate to match their stance. The binding is built on the Surge ST Pro baseplate with Arc ST Pro Pillow Line straps, and a multi-hole pro heel loop lets the highback rotate 4 or 8 degrees either way. At 638 g per binding in a Medium, with 6 mm of snow camo padding underfoot and 3 mm on the highback, the NR Pro suits big lines, cold days and riders who fine-tune their setup.

Why We Like It

  • The multi-hole pro heel loop rotates the highback 0, 4 or 8 degrees either way, so it can sit parallel to the heelside edge for quicker heelside turns.
  • The Surge ST Pro baseplate gives a stiff, solid platform, and Arc ST Pro Pillow Line straps keep the upper binding agile.
  • A pre-installed 6 mm snow camo pad under the foot and 3 mm on the highback add warmth, cushion and a closer fit to the boot.
  • Anodized 7075 aluminum pro screws save weight, and the binding runs Spark's Tesla T1 touring system.

Best Uses

  • Big lines and steep terrain
  • Riders with steeper stance angles
  • Cold days where padding helps
  • Riders who fine-tune their setup
  • Soft boot splitboarders

Mounting and Setup Advice

Rotate the highback to match your stance: maximum rotation suits binding angles of 15 degrees or more, and mid rotation suits angles from 6 to 15 degrees. The 638 g figure is for a Medium.

On the board side, the binding needs Spark Flat Pucks or Spark Canted Pucks, sold separately, and then works with any puck-compatible splitboard. If you are mixing hardware generations, ST bindings need ST Whammy Bars, while ST bindings run on older Tesla brackets. Bring your board in so we can set puck placement and stance.

Common Questions

Who should buy the Spark R&D NR Pro Bindings?
The Spark R&D NR Pro Bindings suit splitboarders who want a stiff, padded binding with a highback they can rotate to match their stance. They weigh 638 g per binding in a Medium.
What boots and boards work with the Spark R&D NR Pro Bindings?
The Spark R&D NR Pro takes soft snowboard boots only. It is a splitboard soft binding and is not compatible with ISO, GripWalk, pin-tech or telemark bindings or the boots that use them. On the board side it needs Spark Flat Pucks or Spark Canted Pucks, sold separately, and then works with any puck-compatible splitboard.
Why rotate the highback?
Rotating the highback so it sits parallel to the heelside edge makes heelside turns quicker to start. Maximum rotation suits binding angles of 15 degrees or more; mid rotation suits 6 to 15 degrees.
Do I need to buy anything else?
Yes, pucks. The NR Pro comes with the bindings, ST Brackets, T1 Heel Rests, mounting screws and a Spark Pocket Tool. Spark Flat or Canted Pucks are sold separately.
Will these work with my older Spark parts?
Partly. ST bindings work only with ST Whammy Bars, so a standard Whammy Bar from a 2021/22 or older T1 binding will not fit. ST bindings do run on older Tesla brackets with brass bushings, and older T1 bindings run on ST brackets.
How much does the NR Pro weigh?
638 g per binding in a Medium.

Our Verdict

The Spark R&D NR Pro Bindings combine the stiff Surge ST Pro baseplate, Arc ST Pro straps and a heel loop that rotates the highback 4 or 8 degrees either way, with padding underfoot and on the highback. At 638 g per binding in a Medium, they weigh a little more than the Surge ST Pro. Riders who want the lightest binding should look at the Arc ST Pro; riders who want to tune the highback to their stance should start here.
