Tech Specs
Voile Hyper V8 Alpine Touring Skis
The Voile Hyper V8 Alpine Touring Skis are for backcountry skiers who tour mostly for soft snow and want a wide ski that still turns on a dime when the snow goes variable. A 112 mm waist and 141 mm shovel at 176 cm keep the tips planing in deep snow, and a 17.3 m radius with a tapered, rockered tail lets the Hyper V8 pivot and slash rather than track. At 1,400 g per ski in a 176, on a paulownia core laminated with two layers of carbon and fiberglass weave, the Hyper V8 makes storm-day tours, tree skiing, and big powder objectives practical on foot.

Ski Profile
Why We Like It
- Width scales across six lengths, from 107 mm underfoot at 165 cm to 119 mm at 193 cm, so a lighter skier on a short Hyper V8 is not pushing a full 119 mm platform.
- At 1,400 g per ski in a 176, the Hyper V8 puts 112 mm under the boot for the same 1,400 g per ski as a 183 cm Voile Hyper V6, which makes trail breaking in deep snow far less of a grind.
- Voile keeps the original V8 shape and camber and swaps the aspen core for paulownia, a low-density wood, then doubles the carbon and reinforces the binding mounts.
- A 17.3 m radius at 176 cm and a rockered, tapered tail make speed easy to scrub in trees and narrow chutes.
Best Uses
- Deep powder and storm-day touring
- Tree skiing in soft snow
- Hut trips in midwinter
- Playful, surfy backcountry skiing
- Big lines when the snow is soft
Ski Selection Advice
The Hyper V8 runs six lengths and the shape changes at every one: 16.6 m and 107 mm underfoot at 165 cm, 17.3 m and 112 mm at 176 cm, 20.4 m and 119 mm at 193 cm. Because the rockered tip and tail shorten the running length, the Hyper V8 skis shorter than its printed length. Most skiers can size at or a little above their usual touring length without the ski feeling long in trees.
Voile designs the Hyper V8 for alpine touring bindings, and a telemark mount voids the factory warranty. Any brake has to clear the waist at your length, which reaches 119 mm on the 193 cm, so confirm the brake width before mounting. Match the binding to your boot sole norm. We size skins off the tail: the 165 and 171 cm tails of 117 and 120 mm take 120 mm stock, and the 176 to 193 cm tails of 123 to 130 mm take 140 mm stock.

Compare the Voile Hyper V8
Hyper V8 vs. Voile Hyper V6
The Voile Hyper V6 shares the hybrid rocker and paulownia core but runs 99 mm underfoot at 178 cm against 112 mm on the 176 cm Hyper V8. The Hyper V6 is the better one-ski quiver for mixed snow, and the Hyper V8 earns its width on powder days.
Voile Hyper V6 Alpine Touring SkisHyper V8 vs. Voile HyperDrifter
The Voile HyperDrifter is wider at 121 mm underfoot at 178 cm and uses early-rise camber with a long running length and a flat tail. The HyperDrifter rewards a skier who drives long, fast turns, while the Hyper V8 suits a skier who likes to pivot, slash, and play.
Voile HyperDrifter Alpine Touring SkisHyper V8 vs. Voile HyperCharger
The Voile HyperCharger is 106 mm underfoot at 178 cm with an early-rise camber profile and a directional, carving personality. Choose the HyperCharger if big lines at speed are the goal, and the Hyper V8 if soft snow and trees fill most of your days.
