The IKO headlamp is a new take on personal lighting from the innovative team at Petzl. The intent with the new Petzl IKO is to rethink modern headlamp design - and you know what Petzl, you guys nailed it. The IKO is shockingly lightweight, but still bright enough for plenty of nighttime shenanigans.
Traditional spandex/nylon head straps for headlamps typically lose their stretch, make your head clammy and move around too much - especially when trying to ski. Petzl has developed the AIRFIT headband to fix that problem. The AIRFIT is a molded rubber headband that better fits the contours of your head without moving around. The headlamp can also be worn around your neck or made into a lantern with the included translucent storage sack. Cool! The lantern on the front only has one button with three light settings: low, medium, and high. Kudos Petzl for keeping it simple. An included lock feature is nice as well. The headlamp uses Petzl's HYBRID CONCEPT battery, which is a USB-rechargeable battery pack that can also be replaced by three AAA batteries. You get all of this functionality in a 90 (!) gram package with a 350-lumen max lighting. The IKO is featherweight lighting that provides enough shine to get out resort touring at night or use for that long [and usually unplanned] descent in the dark. Yet again, Petzl demonstrates it's supreme quality in headlamp design. Did we mention that this rig is only $70.00??
