ATHLETIC AND SUSTAINABLE

ELASTIC, LIGHTWEIGHT AND EXTREMELY BREATHABLE JACKET FOR DEMANDING SKI TOURS

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Extremely breathable
  • Windproof zones, otherwise wind- and water-resistant
  • Elastic materials for great freedom of movement

Sweat-inducing ascents, steep descents: We developed the COL BECCHEI JACKET for men especially for demanding ski tours in alpine terrain.

In order to make this athletically cut ski touring jacket particularly lightweight, robust and elastic, we use MERINO NATURETEC LIGHT as the main material: It provides excellent breathability and elasticity yet is still wind-resistant. Tasmanian merino wool on the inside offers plenty of comfort while naturally regulating the climate. In the front, technical inserts made of a special three-layer WARP KNIT material with a windproof membrane protect against the weather yet remain breathable. And air pockets in the fabric provide optimum insulation. For the sake of the environment, the jacket is PFC-FREE and climate-neutral.

The details have been tailored to demanding tours in alpine terrain: The close-fitting hood protects the head from the cold and fits easily under a helmet. Ventilation zippers under the arms cool during strenuous ascents, while elastic cuffs keep out drafts and snow. The pockets are backpack-optimized – for quick access.

The COL BECCHEI JACKET for men is the ideal ski touring companion, even in demanding conditions.

Great high speed touring jacket

Nice athletic fit for touring/skimo in mild to moderate conditions. The pit zips and pockets feature is excellent.

Great jacket, but pricey

I bought this jacket after searching endlessly for a spandex adjacent midlayer that would breath well and have decent pockets for storing skins. It's been everything I was looking for. The jacket is comfortable and fits athletic, but not spandex tight. The merino, while perhaps not totally necessary, adds a soft feel against skin when wearing a short sleeve baselayer. It may also prevent odor, as I have noticed I smell a bit less than I would wearing my other synthetic layers. The material breaths quite well and the pit zips and large pockets add additional venting which allows even a routine overheater like me to keep it on in all but the warmest conditions. The shell does well enough to shield weather - it's not totally windproof but is warm enough to prevent needing an extra layer for the ski down during resort laps. And it looks pretty slick as well.

My one negative is the price. It's at least 25% more than many equivalent options, which is why I waited for a decent markdown prior to purchasing. At list price it's a hard to swallow for a midlayer. But if you can find it on sale, or better yet, if money is no object to you, then it's a fantastic option for a ski touring midlayer that checks all the boxes.
