Tech Specs
The Backland 86 is a jack of all trades, from race training to backcountry ski touring, this ski has been a shop favorite at Cripple Creek for years. The poplar-caruba core is light but skis damp, absorbing many of the micro shocks traveling up from the snow surface as you ride. A carbon backbone locks in torsional rigidity meaning the ski can hold an edge as you turn and stay under you when you hit crust and icy spots.
You'll enjoy the 17m (172cm) turning radius created by 85% camber and the floatation created by 15% tip rocker. The flat tail and stiff flex add to the strength and power of the Backland 86. An 86mm waist puts this in the lightweight touring category and it shines in many applications. The modest weight (1240g at 172cm) makes it perfect for endurance training or pursuing large objectives on long days.
Racers will consider this a powder ski, powder hounds will consider this a spring ski. But regardless, this is a versatile option for your quiver. This profile makes for graceful yet powerful carving and the Backland holds up in mixed conditions from fresh snow to wind crust, ice, spring corn, or the wide plain of a groomer.
