Why We Like It

  • Lateral release at the toe and vertical release at the heel, both 6 to 13, work like an alpine binding.
  • The boot sits flat on the ski in ski mode, which gives an alpine feel underfoot.
  • All 22 structural parts per binding are machined from 7075 aluminum.
  • The brake locks itself when the heel goes into walk mode and releases when you switch back to ski mode.

Mounting and Setup Advice

Choose the brake equal to or up to 15 mm wider than the ski waist: 97, 108 or 120 mm. ATK matches the HY 13 Free to skis 90 to 120 mm wide. A shop should set release for your weight, height, age, boot sole length and skier type and test it after mounting.

ATK requires tech inserts at the toe and heel in good condition and a boot model on its compatibility list for this binding, plus two checks at mounting: in climbing mode the boot must pivot at least 80 degrees on the toe pins before touching the toe piece, and tilted forward it must rest on the toe jaws, not the front lever. Set the AFD and shims to your sole. Bring your boots in so we can confirm the fit and set the release.
