Tech Specs
The Black Crows Camox Freebird is a ski you've probably heard of and for good reason- it's widely touted as one of the top all-mountain touring skis ever. The 2022-2023 season brings some subtle improvements to a time-tested design. The Camox is so popular that it's made in 6 different lengths ranging from 157cm to 188cm. Few skis offer such a wide range of performance for all sizes and abilities.
The Camox Freebird receives subtle but important upgrades that include a slight waist reduction from 96mm to 95mm and construction changes to make it ski even better in variable conditions. The new Camox uses a similar core as the popular Orb Freebird where all of the poplar wood is removed for a paulownia-only core, drastically reducing the weight. That reduction in wood stiffness is then reinforced with carbon fibers, glass fibers, and a titanal mounting plate. They also shortened the length of the ABS sidewall to eliminate more weight and give the tip and tail a little more flex. Shedding two-thirds of a pound per ski, the Camox Freebird comes in at 1,375 grams in the 178 cm length! The new Camox Freebird retains the best-in-class dampening that Black Crows are known and loved for.
