Jones Solution Splitboard

The Jones Solution Splitboard is a directional all-mountain split for riders who want one board for powder, steep chutes and refrozen exits on the same tour. An 8/10 flex with flax and basalt stringers holds a line at speed, and 12.5 mm of taper with a 20 mm setback keeps the nose up in deep snow without the vague feel of a pure powder shape. Nine sizes from 154 to 169W, including four wide boards, fit riders from 130 lbs up and cover everything from dawn patrol laps to multi-day hut trips.

Why We Like It

  • An 8/10 flex with flax and basalt stringers gives the Solution the backbone to stay composed at speed on chalk and wind-affected snow, where a softer split starts to chatter.
  • 12.5 mm of taper and a 20 mm setback sink the tail in powder, so the nose stays up without riding the back foot all day.
  • Inner and outer Traction Tech 3.0 edges add grip on icy skin-track traverses and firm descents, and the 3D Contour Base lifts the contact points to reduce edge catch.
  • Nine sizes, four of them wide at 26.3 cm and up, let riders with large boots get the right waist without sizing up in length.

Best Uses

  • All-mountain backcountry touring
  • Steep chutes and couloirs
  • Storm days with firm snow underneath
  • Hut trips where one board covers everything
  • Riders with large boots on the 159W to 169W

Splitboard Selection Advice

Size the Solution on rider weight first, then check boot size against the waist. Jones lists 130 to 180 lbs for the 158, 140 to 190 lbs for the 159W and 161, and 160 to 210 lbs for the 162W. The 158 runs a 24.9 cm waist and the 161 runs 25.2 cm, while the 159W and 162W both run 26.3 cm, so a rider in a large boot who fits the 158 or 161 by weight should look at the 159W or 162W first.

The Solution rides closer to its length than a powder shape, because the blunt nose and modest taper keep most of the edge in the snow. Riders coming off a resort board can generally ride the same length or a few centimeters shorter. Skins are sold separately and attach through the tip clips and the tail notches.

Compare the Jones Solution

Solution vs. Jones Ultralight Stratos Splitboard

The Jones Ultralight Stratos Splitboard pairs a tighter 7.5 m sidecut at 159 cm with a carbon and Koroyd build that cuts weight for long approaches. The Solution runs a longer 8.5 to 9.3 m sidecut and an 8/10 flex, so it holds a line better at speed on big, open faces.

Solution vs. Weston Gnarnia Splitboard

The Weston Gnarnia Splitboard is a stiffer freeride shape with 9 mm of taper and a four-radius sidecut. The Solution adds 3.5 mm more taper and a spoon-shaped 3D Contour Base for a looser feel in soft snow, with nine sizes against the Gnarnia's seven.

Solution vs. Jones Hovercraft 2.0 Splitboard

The Jones Hovercraft 2.0 Splitboard is a short, wide powder shape with 17 mm of taper, usually ridden shorter than a resort board. The Solution is the longer, more versatile choice when the tour mixes powder with firm, steep snow.

Common Questions

Who should buy the Jones Solution Splitboard?
The Jones Solution Splitboard suits intermediate to expert riders who want one split for every condition. An 8/10 flex and camber underfoot hold an edge on firm, steep snow, while 12.5 mm of taper and a 20 mm setback float the nose in powder.
What bindings and skins work with the Jones Solution Splitboard?
The Jones Solution Splitboard uses the standard splitboard insert pattern, so it takes splitboard-specific bindings that switch between tour and ride mode on puck or interface hardware. Standard solid-board snowboard bindings are not compatible. Skins are sold separately and attach at the tip clips and the Quick Tension tail notches.
Which Solution size should I ride?
Choose on rider weight, then confirm the waist suits your boot. Jones lists 130 to 180 lbs for the 158 and 160 to 210 lbs for the 162W. The wide sizes run a 26.3 cm waist on the 159W and 162W, which suits larger boots without adding length.
How stiff is the Jones Solution Splitboard?
Jones rates the Solution at 8/10, mid-stiff and responsive. Flax and basalt stringers add pop and damp chatter, so the board stays calm at speed but still bends into a turn for riders in the listed weight ranges.
What does the Traction Tech 3.0 edge do?
Traction Tech 3.0 adds serrations to the edge near the bindings. Jones puts it on both the inner and outer edges of the Solution, so each ski grips on icy traverses during the climb and the assembled board grips on firm descents.
How does the Solution handle firm snow?
Camber between the bindings, an 8/10 flex and Traction Tech 3.0 edges hold well on chalk and refrozen snow. The 8.5 m sidecut on the 158 turns readily, and the longer 9.3 m radius on the 162W stays steady at speed.

Our Verdict

The Jones Solution Splitboard is the all-mountain split in the Jones line. An 8/10 flex, camber underfoot and Traction Tech 3.0 edges hold on firm, steep snow, while 12.5 mm of taper, a 20 mm setback and a 3D Contour Base keep it afloat on storm days. Nine sizes from 154 to 169W, including four wide boards, fit a broad range of riders and boot sizes. For a single board that tours and rides well in every condition, the Jones Solution Splitboard is a strong choice.
