Why We Like It
- The Maestrale strikes one of the best up-versus-down balances we fit, skiing a genuine 115 flex while touring with 61 degrees of cuff rotation.
- At 1,400 g per boot (size 27) the redesigned Maestrale drops weight over the previous generation while gaining a more progressive flex.
- The Pebax Rnew shell with a carbon-core backbone adds support without the harshness of a full carbon boot, using more renewable, castor-oil-based materials.
- The Speed MLT ski/walk mechanism is simple and secure, and the Wave Closure plus HRS heel strap lock the foot for a precise feel on the descent.
- The 102 mm last runs as a true medium and takes fit work well, so it suits a wide range of feet.
- The Vibram Cayman LT sole (ISO 9523) with tech inserts grips rocky approaches and pairs with pin-tech touring bindings.
Best Uses
- All-around touring and everyday backcountry days
- Ski mountaineering and mixed ascents that reward a light, efficient uphill
- Driving touring skis 90 to 108 mm underfoot
- Skiers with medium-volume feet on a 102 mm last
- Skiers who want one boot that balances the up and the down
Bootfitter's Advice
The Maestrale fits as a medium-volume boot on a 102 mm last, with a secure heel from the HRS strap and enough forefoot room to suit a broad range of feet. After fitting the Maestrale line for years, we find the current redesign runs lower over the instep and slightly roomier in the toe box than the older Maestrale, and it runs a full size larger than a same-size 4-Quattro. Confirm size with a shell fit rather than converting from a street-shoe number.
We can punch the Pebax Rnew forefoot and sixth-toe area readily, and the shell modifies well, though we avoid the carbon-core backbone zone. Plan on a heat mold of the Intuition Pro Flex Touring liner to lock in heel hold and relieve the instep. Entry is easiest with the tongue pulled toward the arch-side of the foot.

Compare the Scarpa Maestrale
Maestrale vs. Scarpa Maestrale RS
The Scarpa Maestrale RS is the stiffer, more downhill-focused sibling at a 130 flex, using a carbon-infused Grilamid Bio shell rather than the Maestrale's Pebax Rnew. On the same 102 mm last, skiers who charge the descent choose the Maestrale RS, while those who value a lighter, more balanced all-around boot choose the Maestrale.
Shop Scarpa Maestrale RS bootsMaestrale vs. Tecnica Zero G Tour Pro
Both are do-it-all touring boots. The Tecnica Zero G Tour Pro is a stiffer four-buckle 130 on a narrower 99 mm last, while the Scarpa Maestrale runs a wider 102 mm last, a three-buckle Wave Closure, and a more forgiving 115 flex at a lighter weight. Skiers who want more downhill power lean Zero G Tour Pro, while those who value balance and a wider fit lean Maestrale.
Shop Tecnica Zero G Tour Pro bootsMaestrale vs. Dynafit Radical Pro
Skiers cross-shop these two as balanced-to-burly touring boots. The Dynafit Radical Pro is a stiffer boot on a last near 103.5 mm, while the Scarpa Maestrale is lighter with a more progressive 115 flex on a 102 mm last. The Maestrale favors uphill efficiency and balance, while the Radical Pro favors downhill power.
