If you are like 100% of backcountry skiers, when you find yourself on a long approach, all you want to do is get in a good rhythm and grind out the miles. Unfortunately, sometimes there are minor hills and undulations in your way and these muddy up the tour with frequent stops. Recognizing this, Voile has thought outside the box and created the V6 BC Backcountry ski. The V6's start with an aspen wood core and are layered with carbon fiberglass and topped off with cap construction and a burly polyamide topsheet, which gives the ski the toughness (and playfulness-tanks can rip!) of a tank, but with none of the weight. The truly radical innovation on the ski is the fish scales underfoot. They allow for minor hill climbing, which can cut way back on the need for transitions. The V6's are known for their versatility already thanks to Voile's hybrid rocker profile so the fish scaling helps these skis up the ante. Not for everyone, but perfect for those who have long approaches and don't want to be bothered with a million annoying transitions, this is a great all around ski.

Made in the USA.

Great getting around ski

I've wanted to try a scaled powder ski for years, adn now that I have had a chance I have mixed feelings about the experience. For climbing shallow and extended slopes, the scales are really fantastic, especially when there are parts of gentle downhill in between. On the other hand, the scales really do add quite a bit of drag, especially when the snow is cold. They seem to go much better when the snow is warm to wet. It is a must to keep them waxed nicely or ithey are no fun at all. On steep powdery snow they are great if you don't mind a little bit of drag. I did a lot of short slopes split by gentle to flat areas, and they are excellent for that. Where I got really annoyed with them was on long gentle downhills where a smooth ski would have glided all the way through these required freeing up the heel and striding. As for the performace at speed, they are very fun and playful. The unscaled version of this would be an awesome ski! This one is great in specific circumstances.

Voile v6 bc

I am new to telemark skiing and these skis already have me making sweet tele turns. They handle hardback and powder well! Easy to turn and a fun playful nature. Not having to use skins keeps the weight down. These skis climb steeper slopes than you would think. I love them! Cripple creek has a great staff that really know their stuff!! Great job!!
