Why We Like the Spark R&D Surge ST Splitboard Binding

The Spark R&D Surge ST Splitboard Binding continues to push splitboarding into new realms of performance, durability, and weight. Spark R&D built the new Surge ST to provide riders with a binding that maximizes their efficiency on the up so they're feeling fresh and ready to tackle demanding descents, while giving them a binding that is capable and confidence inspiring to rip the decent

The Surge ST from Spark R&D is for the Splitboarder who rides big, committing lines or who just like a stiffer and more responsive binding. Built with a stiffer Asym highback and ankle strap, along with a more rigid base plate. The Spark R&D Surge ST Splitboard Binding provides maximum stiffness and responsiveness so you can have full confidence to charge as hard as your wish. In addition to the Asym highbacks, new for the 22/23 season is the addition of the overmolding process used on some of the binding and crampon components to increase the efficiency and durability of the bindings. Spark's ST (Smooth Touring) system uses injection molding to add their proprietary thermoplastic blend to existing aluminum and steel components that reduces friction and wear, giving you a more efficient binding that Spark claims has a 4X longer lifespan! These improvements allow your to ride harder and go higher than ever before.

The Surge ST is built on Spark's T1 platform, and utilizes a whammy bar with 2 climbing height positions, as well as a snap ramp/side lock ST touring bracket to make transitions a breeze. With the new Spark R&D Surge ST Splitboard Binding, you will be ready to take on any climb while having an absolute blast on the way back down!

So easy to use

These suckers are built well and so easy to use. Only took a few tours to get used to the stiffness of my backcountry board, didn’t notice a huge difference in support from the bindings!

Spark Surge splitboard binding review

Bought these Spark Surge bindings to replace my Burton Hitchhiker’s that I had for a few seasons and I wish I did it sooner. While the Burton’s utilize Spark’s Tesla T1 system, that’s where the similarities (mostly) end. The highbacks, the straps, the adjustability and even the weight is far better with the Surge. I look forward to putting many miles them!

Great splitboard binding

These bindings are lightweight and responsive. Simple mechanics manner it easy to transition from ride mode to touring mode.

Solid bindings

These have a nice tight fit in uphill & downhill mode. A little too tight when mounting in downhill mode.. they require a firm smack to slide into place. Good solid feel across the board.
