You knew it was coming. The big brands in the ski world have finally decided to dive into our growing niche, and they are making waves. Atomic/Salomon have been testing their tech binding with team athletes for a couple of years and have nailed it. The Backland Tour is a fully functional, almost all metal tech binding coming in at less than 300 grams!
Toe piece includes a fool proof metal step in guide, leash loop, and standard tech/Dynafit style crampon acceptor. Heel unit provides a 30 mm BSL adjustment, flat, medium and high climbing positions, and 3 levels of release adjustability. U spring is removable and the binding comes with 3 options- Women, Men and Expert. These correlate to roughly 6, 8 and 11 release values. Brake is an add on and must be mounted with the heel unit. This is a bomber, highly functional, and lightweight ski touring and mountaineering binding that has already found it's way on to some our personal setups!
Check out the blue painted Salomon MTNif gray doesn't quite match your skis or steeze.
Got out on new atomic backland binding this week after a huge cascade range dump. Rue are mounted on Voile Super Chargers and that’s a whole story too!! The binding were super easy to step into with the front toe piece to line up boot pins. The rear of the binding worked like a dream, the binding rotates easily from walk to ski position and locks in firm when it’s time to head downhill.
Haven’t used it yet!
I got these bindings and immediately took them out that day. compared to my other set of bindings these are easier to step into and easier to transition from walk to ski and vice versa
They're easy to get into and out of. The two piece climbing risers work very well. They're also light, but feel solid on the downhills. I don't have a lot of time on them, but they're 5 star so far.
The binding works great. It feels very secure and gives great degree of motion.
Just used them two days up to now but the breaks keeps setting to on while going uphill when I hit the brake with my other ski. It is a little bit too much sensitive to going in break position when you hit it by mistake. I may juste remove the brakes if they keep doing that and use a leasch.
Waited to review until I had used them at least a dozen times. Love this binding. Very easy to use. Feels solid on the descent. Highly recommend.
