In 2019, the Áspero bike revolutionized the gravel cycling scene, marking the beginning of a “new era of speed in gravel.” This new iteration of the Áspero stays true to its original purpose while incorporating several enhancements: it features a threaded bottom bracket shell, improved cable routing, and a derailleur hanger compatible with Universal Derailleur Hanger (UDH), allowing users to take advantage of SRAM’s Transmission drivetrains.

Additionally, it has been designed to be more aerodynamic. In the case of the Áspero, aerodynamic performance isn’t just about reducing drag for pure speed; it’s also about conserving energy. After a long day battling headwinds, the three watts saved compared to the previous model could mean one less energy gel for your stomach to process—definitely worth it. 

Along with improved aerodynamics, we lowered the seat stays to enhance rear compliance and slightly reduced the stiffness at the front end to make the final hours of a long race less uncomfortable. We also increased clearance for mud, taking lessons learned from the R5-CX and the muddy conditions experienced at Unbound in 2023. While these changes may seem minor individually, they collectively result in significant benefits. The outcome is a bike that feels similar to the original Áspero, but it is faster, more comfortable, and more versatile.
