Why We Like the La Sportiva Vanguard W Touring Boot

New for 2022 is the La Sportiva Vanguard Women's touring boot. The Vanguard checks off all the boxes for a touring boot with its high range of motion, its lightweight construction, and its control on the downhill. This touring animal utilizes a new v-shape cuff design that makes getting into the boot and transitioning extremely easy. While the shell and cuff are comprised of eco-friendly Pebax RNEW construction. This allows the boot to be extremely resilient to low temperatures while still holding its flex.

The Vanguard Women's touring boot can handle a beating and is very comfortable right out of the box with a brand new Ultralon foam liner. It is a very stout touring boot that has a flex rating of 115. so no need to be concerned about its downhill performance. While on the uphill, it is going to feel more like a two-buckle boot and has a 63-degree range of motion. This comes from its new EZ Flex double tongue that has two different stiffnesses for the uphill and the down.  Look good, feel good, ski good in the new La Sportiva Vanguard Women's Boot. V-Shape Cuff closure combines high mobility with an effortless entry and exit.

  • Two- piece EZ Flex double tongue allows for frictionless pivot in walk mode, and powerful precise turns in ski mode.
  • Revolutionary V-Shape cuff system allows easy entry and exit, and effortless mobility in walk mode.
  • Eco-friendly Pebax Bio Based Rnew 1100 shell material is easy on the environment.
  • Cuff and lower shell interface is reinforced with the EZ Lock closure system.
  • Toughness for big miles in the mountains thanks to Vibram V-lug high durability soles.

Great boots!

I had a very hard time finding boots to fit my normal width, apparently high instep women’s feet.

No gos included Scarpa F1 Ws and Gea (too roomy), Dynafit Radical Pro Ms and Ws (weird poky flaps in the instep), Tecnica Zero G Tour Scouts (too low in the instep, need longer buckles), Atomic Hawx Prime XTD (too roomy) and Ultra XTD (too narrow).

This boot fit almost perfectly, except I had to get a bit of minor punching on the sides of my feet.

Only thing weird is that the liners need to be cooked at an unusually high temp so ask your boot fitter about that before going in for an appointment. Mine didn’t have an oven that went hot enough so my mold was quite subtle and I need to get a bit more space in the toes.

I’ve used them around 10 days and kind of hate the fiddly buckles but at least they haven’t broken like others have reported.

Bottom line though is that they ski really, really well! I’m a fairly strong, tall, and heavy expert female skier and like a boot that’s around a 115 flex (anything stiffer is harder for me to ski and makes my knees hurt) and these have been great.
