  • The Atomic Backland Expert UL W Alpine Touring Boot is a perennial best-seller in the fitness and all-mountain categories. This is no surprise as you begin to investigate all of the features Atomic has managed to pack into this sleek and fast touring boot. Frictionless pivots and ample range of motion ensure effortless and efficient uphill travel. Snug and responsive fit, and a customizable 3D liner will have your feet thanking you on prolonged uphill efforts, as well as high-energy, technical descents.

Ask any experienced ski tourer and they'll tell you that uphill performance is paramount to your enjoyment during a day of climbing on skis. 74 degrees of rotation in walk mode, combined with a lightweight, fiber-reinforced polyurethane shell means the Backland Expert W won't slow you down on long, drawn-out approaches or during your fitness laps. Don't let these uphill features fool you, however. A firm, yet forgiving 85 flex rating provides ample power and steering when matched with the right ski. A snug, lower-volume fit creates a good amount of responsiveness and sensitivity, and fit issues can easily be addressed using the fully heat-moldable three-dimensional liner. For fitness skiers and backcountry enthusiasts seeking a smooth, forgiving downhill ride with no compromise on the climbs, the Backland Expert W delivers the goods.

    Nice for uphilling

My girlfriends got into uphilling at Buttermilk resort and I decided I would finally bite the bullet for an uphill setup, and I got the Backland Expert Women's boot. These boots are so light they feel like hiking shoes!! When i'm walking around the flex goes really far and I can slide uphill really nice on my skis. The fit is comfortable, and we had to heat mold the liner which gave me some more room, and with the footbeds we put in they are perfect. I like the lever in the back that flips because it's easy to switch from walk to ski. They aren't the stiffest boots for the downhill, so I think they're best for beginner to intermediate users. Overall, I've been really happy with them!
