Cripple Creek Bike and Backcountry: A Small Shop Mountain Collective
At Cripple Creek Bike and Backcountry, our mission has always been simple: deliver world-class service and expertise while preserving the friendly, approachable vibe of a small local shop. Whether you're gearing up for a mid-winter dawn patrol or a high-country gravel ride, we believe your experience should be seamless — from first boot fit to post-ride tune-up. That’s why, with every merger and expansion, we’ve stayed committed to what matters most: consistent service, great customer care, and a full-service history accessible at any of our locations.
By integrating our systems and training across stores, we’ve created a connected network that still feels like home. Whether you walk into our shop in Carbondale, Silverthorne, Denver, Avon or Seattle, you’ll find the same knowledgeable staff, personalized recommendations, and commitment to fast turnaround times. Our goal isn’t just to scale up — it’s to scale better. To grow while keeping that small shop feel that makes customers return season after season.
Merging with Basalt Bike and Ski
In 2022, CCBB merged with Basalt Bike and Ski (BBS), a well-established local business founded in 2006 by Joel Mischke. This union combines CCBB's backcountry skiing expertise with BBS's cycling proficiency, creating a comprehensive outdoor gear and service provider. The merger has led to the expansion of CCBB's product line to include top-tier bike brands such as Specialized, Giant, Yeti, Santa Cruz, Pivot, Cervelo, and Pinarello.
The Carbondale locations have been restructured, with the Basalt Bike retail and service shop serving as the primary outlet, while the original CCBB store now functions as the company's headquarters and online fulfillment center.
Partnering with Gore Range Sports
In early 2025, CCBB announced a partnership with Gore Range Sports in Silverthorne. This collaboration aims to establish a premier bike and backcountry shop in Summit County. Gore Range Sports, known for its exceptional service and community engagement, complements CCBB's commitment to quality and expertise in outdoor gear.
Integrating High Gear Cyclery
CCBB has also integrated High Gear Cyclery, a boutique bike shop located in Avon, Colorado. High Gear Cyclery is celebrated for its personalized service and deep-rooted passion for cycling. This integration enhances CCBB's presence in the Vail Valley, offering customers a wider range of cycling products and services, including bike rentals, repairs, and sales of high-quality bikes and accessories.
A Unified Vision for Outdoor Enthusiasts
Through these strategic mergers and partnerships, Cripple Creek Bike & Backcountry has transformed into a multifaceted outdoor retailer, catering to both skiing and cycling enthusiasts. By uniting with Basalt Bike and Ski, Gore Range Sports, and High Gear Cyclery, CCBB reinforces its dedication to providing top-notch gear, expert service, and fostering a vibrant outdoor community across Colorado and beyond.

Build Your Dream Ski Setup
Tell us how you ski, where you ski, and what you want out of your next setup. Our experts will help you build the right combination of skis, bindings, boots, and skins for you—not just what happens to be on the wall.
Once we have your setup dialed, we take care of the rest. We’ll make sure everything works together, mount your bindings specifically to you and your boots, trim your skins, and get the entire setup ready for the mountains.
Your perfect setup starts with expert knowledge and service. When you pick it up, it’s not a box of gear—it’s your complete ski setup, fully mounted, dialed, and ready to go.
