Rocky Talkie is thrilled to introduce the GMRS radio, which features IP67 waterproofing, a battery life of up to 5 days, and 5 watts of power for optimal range. This radio is fully compatible with the award-winning FRS Mountain Radio. Designed and tested in the rugged mountains and rivers of the Colorado Rockies, the radio is equipped with protective rubber padding and a shatterproof LED screen.

Each unit is hand-tested to meet IP67 waterproofing standards (able to withstand submersion at 1 meter) and includes a water-shedding design for efficient communication during white-water activities. The 5 Watt Radio maximizes two crucial aspects of a backcountry radio: battery life and transmission range. It features a specialized 1800 mAh battery that provides approximately 5 days of use on a single charge, even in extremely cold conditions (down to -20°F).

The radio operates at the highest power level available for handheld GMRS radios (5 watts), allowing for a maximum range of over 35 miles, although a typical range in backcountry terrain is between 2 to 8 miles. You can easily attach the 5-Watt Radio to packs and other gear using the integrated steel gator clip (with 360° rotation) and a backup leash. It is also compatible with our Carabiner Attachment, which comes with either the Quantum ultralight climbing carabiner or a locking carabiner, both crafted in collaboration with our local Colorado partner, Trango.

The 5 Watt Radio includes several useful features for the backcountry, such as access to 11 weather channels, NOAA weather alerts, dual-channel monitoring and transmitting, and a removable antenna. Its GMRS designation unlocks 8 repeater channels to further extend your transmission range. Each radio is equipped with a compact and high-performance 7.5 cm antenna, and a longer 17 cm antenna is included in the box. The 17 cm antenna moderately enhances range and improves reception of weather channels.
