Why we ski the TLT X

Expanding on the legendary TLT line, the TLT X is a boot for dedicated athletes looking to take on the most demanding missions. Weighing in at 1,030 grams with a cuff rotation of 60 degrees, the TLT X is built to cruise up the skin track, but a light boot isn't enough for the biggest missions. A boot also needs to have uncompromising downhill performance for those steep and exposed lines, and that's exactly what sets the TLT X apart.

Designed with a Twistfit closure system to enable easy adjustments via an adjustment dial, the TLT X is comfortable and guarantees a secure hold at the instep and at the heel. The Ultra Lock 5.0 system allows fast, easy transitions between walk and ski modes. More importantly, it guarantees a bomber connection from cuff to shell to inspire confidence in the steepest couloirs and most exposed turns. The new Dynafitter 5 liner provides great out of the box fit while still having plenty of room for customization. And of course, like all Dynafit ski touring boots, the TLT X is made by hand in Italy and includes a lifetime guarantee.

Great new boot, significant changes from prior TLTs

Brought these to South America right out of the box for some Aug/Sept spring touring. My impressions mirror those of the reviews that came in last spring from the early releases. The boot comes in at roughly the same weight of the TLT8 but skis a lot lighter. I would slot this between a race boot and a beefier mountaineering boot. If you're skiing the lighter end of the ski spectrum, this boot is fantastic. I skied them on a 90mm 1300g ski and they were ideal. I did not like them as well on a 100mm ski. I'm really going to enjoy these on the 88mm BlackLight (which I did not bring with me). The new instep closure is more comfortable than last year's Mezzalama and allows for a higher instep like mine to feel right at home. I have been skiing the TLT8 Carbonio (with an aftermarket wrap liner) 100+ days/season for a couple of years and have loved them. I would rank the TLT X as slightly softer with more range of motion in walk mode. If you're running skis in the 75mm to 95mm range, you should love these! As for fit, the last is listed at 101 and that seems about right. I am wider than that, so I'll probably give 'em a little sixth toe punch for long-tour comfort. Overall, I think this boot is going to fit more people than the wide & tall fit of the TLT8 (which was perfect for my foot). I do like how the power strap clips and unclips without having to undo the velcro strap. It's a very slick system, and it locks down as tightly as I needed. I did run the optional upper power straps to add stiffness, but on a lighter setup you could easily skip these for quicker transitions. I'm really looking forward to some long tours in these once the North American winter gets going!
