Scarpa Maestrale RS Alpine Touring Boot
The Scarpa Maestrale RS is a 1,570-gram (size 27) freeride touring boot with a 101 mm last, a 130 flex, and a Vibram Cayman Pro ISO 9523 touring sole, built for expert skiers who want alpine-boot power on the descent and 61 degrees of cuff rotation on the way up. The current Maestrale RS is a full redesign, moving to a four-buckle closure with a Booster Active Power Strap, a Speed Lock 4 walk mechanism, a bi-injection carbon-infused Grilamid shell, and a Pebax Rnew cuff. That construction trades 100 grams of added weight over the previous RS for noticeably more downhill stiffness and drive.

Why We Like It
- The 130 flex is one of the more honest 130s in touring. We find the Maestrale RS skis firm and progressive, closer to a true alpine 130 than most touring boots that claim the number.
- The redesigned four-buckle closure with the Booster Active Power Strap wraps the foot in a uniform, high-tension hold that limits heel lift and drives power to the ski.
- The Speed Lock 4 walk mechanism and 61 degrees of cuff rotation give a long, secure stride on the skin track for a boot this stiff.
- The bi-injection carbon-infused Grilamid shell adds stiffness around the flex zone without the harshness of a full carbon boot, and the Pebax Rnew cuff keeps the flex progressive.
- The 101 mm last runs as a true medium and accepts fit work, so it suits a wide range of feet rather than only narrow ones.
- The Vibram Cayman Pro sole (ISO 9523) with tech inserts grips rocky approaches and pairs with pin-tech touring bindings.
Best Uses
- Freeride touring and ski mountaineering where the descent matters most
- Aggressive skiing on touring skis 90 to 115 mm underfoot
- Big backcountry days that mix long ascents with demanding descents
- Skiers who want one boot to charge in the backcountry and lap the occasional resort day
- Medium-volume feet on a 101 mm last
Bootfitter's Advice
The Maestrale RS fits as a medium-volume boot on a 101 mm last, with a secure heel, a medium instep, and enough forefoot room to suit a broad range of feet. After fitting the Maestrale line for years, we find it runs slightly true-to-snug in length, so confirm size with a shell fit rather than converting from a street-shoe number. Skiers coming off a narrow race-style boot will notice more room, while those on a wide alpine last should still try it on before assuming it is too tight.
We can punch the Grilamid forefoot and the sixth-toe area without much trouble, but we avoid the darker carbon-core zones, which do not modify as forgivingly. Plan on a heat mold for the Intuition Pro Flex Performance liner to lock in heel hold and take pressure off the instep. Skiers with a very high instep or a wide forefoot beyond a medium 101 mm last should budget for fit work or look at a higher-volume shell.

Compare the Scarpa Maestrale RS
Maestrale RS vs. Tecnica Zero G Tour Pro
Both are 130-flex four-buckle touring boots aimed at skiers who want alpine power on the way down. The Scarpa Maestrale RS runs a medium 101 mm last and 61 degrees of cuff rotation, while the Tecnica Zero G Tour Pro uses a narrower 99 mm last and is known for a longer, freer stride, so foot shape often decides between the two.

Skiers cross-shop these two as burly freeride touring boots. The Scarpa Maestrale RS is stiffer at a 130 flex on a 101 mm last, while the Dynafit Radical Pro is a 110-flex boot on a wider last near 103.5 mm, so the Radical Pro suits higher-volume feet and the Maestrale RS suits skiers who want more downhill drive.
Shop Dynafit Radical Pro bootsMaestrale RS vs. Scarpa Maestrale
The Scarpa Maestrale RS is the stiffer, more downhill-focused sibling at a 130 flex and 1,570 g, while the standard Scarpa Maestrale runs a softer 115 flex at a lighter weight on the same 101 mm last. Skiers who prioritize a lighter uphill often pick the Maestrale, while those who charge hard on the descent choose the Maestrale RS.
