A carbon-fiber backcountry touring ski built for ski mountaineers running long approaches and committed traverses, the Black Diamond Helio Carbon 88 Skis at 152cm cut weight on the uphill without giving up the directional stability that a long objective demands on the descent. A pre-preg carbon fiber layup paired with a paulownia wood core keeps total weight at 2,100 grams per pair in the 152cm length, which is among the lightest 88mm-waist tour skis in production. Full-perimeter ABS sidewalls add the dampness that pure carbon constructions usually lack, controlling chatter on refrozen morning skin tracks and breakable crust descents. Early rise in the tip improves flotation and trail-breaking efficiency in soft snow, and an ABS tail protector with integrated skin-clip tab keeps a tail strap secure on descent. The 119-88-110 dimensions and 16-meter turn radius at 152cm make it the appropriate ski mountaineering ski for smaller skiers and ski mo racers who prioritize efficient short-radius turns and minimum mass over the longer 161, 170, and 179cm options in the line.
