Tech Specs
La Sportiva Stratos Hybrid Alpine Touring Boot
The La Sportiva Stratos Hybrid Alpine Touring Boot is built for racers and speed tourers who want an 800-gram-class boot that fits a wider race foot. A 100.5 mm last leaves room a narrow race shell does not, and a carbon-fiber cuff on a Grilamid Bio-Based LF Carbon lower, a carbon-reinforced renewable nylon, supplies race-grade lateral support. At 781 g per boot in a 27.5, with 85 degrees of cuff rotation and a single-lever race transition, the La Sportiva Stratos Hybrid suits race courses, structured training and fast traverses.

Why We Like It
- At 781 g per boot in a 27.5, the Stratos Hybrid sits in the 800-gram race class while costing less than the carbon Stratos VI.
- The 85-degree range of motion is among the longest strides available, ideal for racing and fast traverses.
- The single buckle with a race throw latch transitions in one motion when the clock is running.
- Anti-wear bushings connect the carbon-fiber cuff to the Grilamid lower for a frictionless, durable pivot.
- The Stratos Hybrid uses the Kilo lower shell, one of the wider and more accommodating race fits on the market.
- S4 inserts speed step-in with Ski Trab bindings, and full crampon compatibility handles technical objectives.
Best Uses
- Skimo racing and structured training
- Fast-and-light traverses and speed touring
- Technical ski mountaineering where weight is critical
- Skinny race and mountaineering skis up to 85 mm underfoot
- Racers who need more volume than a Pierre Gignoux or Alien
Bootfitter's Advice
The Stratos Hybrid uses the Kilo lower shell and a 100.5 mm last, which makes it one of the wider, higher-volume race boots we fit. After fitting hundreds of skiers, we find it a good option for racers who run out of room in a Scarpa Alien or find a Pierre Gignoux too low over the foot; at the ball it is close to a Pierre Gignoux in width, with more height and more taper at the toes. The shared Kilo lower holds the heel in a narrow pocket, and the pointed toe box opens up with heat molding. The shell splits on the full size, so a 28 runs longer than many race boots; take your usual size rather than sizing down.
The carbon-infused Grilamid lower punches like an Alien: it will move a little but springs back and cannot be pushed as far as a plain plastic boot. The thin race liner leaves room for a warmer aftermarket liner if you plan to use the Stratos Hybrid for long backcountry days rather than pure racing, and expect a small amount of play in the cuff pivots that is normal for a carbon race boot.

Compare the La Sportiva Stratos Hybrid
La Sportiva Stratos Hybrid vs. Dynafit DNA
Both are dedicated skimo race boots. The Dynafit DNA is a full-carbon boot that skis a touch better on wider skis, while the Stratos Hybrid runs wider and higher in volume with a longer 85-degree stride and an easier single-lever transition, which many racers prefer for comfort over long days.
Shop Dynafit DNA bootsLa Sportiva Stratos Hybrid vs. Scarpa Alien 1.1
The Scarpa Alien 1.1 is a proven carbon race boot that runs narrower and lower in volume, while the Stratos Hybrid is wider and more forgiving through the midfoot and uses a Grilamid lower rather than full carbon. We steer wider race feet to the Stratos Hybrid.

The Stratos Hybrid and the La Sportiva Kilo share the same lower shell, but the Stratos Hybrid is a lighter race boot at 781 g with an 85-degree stride and a single race buckle, while the Kilo is a heavier touring boot with three buckles and more downhill support.
