Tech Specs
Marker Alpinist 8 Alpine Touring Binding
The Marker Alpinist 8 Alpine Touring Binding is an ultralight pin binding for lighter ski tourers and ski mountaineers who want adjustable release on a minimal binding. Lateral release adjusts from 3 to 8 at the heel while a U-spring fixes vertical release at 6, with 8 and 10 springs sold separately, and a small recoil spring in the heel compensates for ski flex. At 270 g per binding without brake, with walk modes at 0, 5 and 9 degrees and 15 mm of heel adjustment, the Alpinist 8 suits long tours, ski mountaineering and skiers up to 110 kg.

Why We Like It
- Lateral release adjusts from 3 to 8, low enough for light skiers who sit below the starting point of many pin bindings.
- The ISI toe has a wide step-in platform and carbon reinforcement, which guides the boot onto the pins and adds stiffness for a binding this light.
- A small recoil spring in the heel gives active length compensation, so release stays consistent as the ski flexes.
- Swapping the U-spring raises vertical release to 8 or 10 without changing bindings.
Best Uses
- Long ski tours
- Ski mountaineering
- Lighter skiers up to 110 kg

Mounting and Setup Advice
The Alpinist 8 ships without a brake. Ski it with a leash, or add an optional Alpinist brake, sold separately. Lateral release adjusts from 3 to 8; vertical release is fixed at 6 by the U-spring, and a shop should check whether your release value calls for the 8 or 10 spring.
The binding needs a boot with certified tech inserts. The heel gives 15 mm of adjustment, 7.5 mm either way, and the toe takes Kingpin/Alpinist crampons. Bring your boots in so we can confirm the inserts and set the release.
