Designed for trails and ultra-running, the Petzl NAO RL Headlamp impresses with its powerful 1500 lumens and lightweight of 145g. Featuring the REACTIVE LIGHTING technology, the light sensor automatically adjusts the brightness and beam pattern to your specific activity, whether it is hiking, running, or ski touring. Its wide beam allows for comfortable, up-close vision, while the mixed beam (flood and focused) allows for proximity and distance vision for the movement. Three lighting levels (Max Burn Time, Standard, and Max Power) allow you to quickly adjust to your desired level.  Red lighting at the rear of the headlamp can be either strobe or continuous to keep you seen at night or for use in emergency situations.

Comfortably balanced, the NAO features a battery pack in the read of the headband to distribute weight efficiently, with the rechargeable battery serving as a spare to charge other devices with its USB-C port. A thin and flexible front plate adjusts to different head shapes, with quick rear adjustment and an additional top strap giving support. The reflective headband keeps you visible at night, with the LOCK function allowing you to travel without fear of accidentally draining your battery. The Petzl NAO RL Headlamp is a gem of a find for the serious mountain athlete.

Petzl NAO RL - Real World Experience

This is simply a revolution in headlamp technology. Many things to love about it. Mainly the rechargeable battery that seconds as an emergency power source. Also, the reactive lighting function is crazy effective. The overall brightness of this lamp is also incredible.

My only critique is that this is clearly designed for a fairly narrow market (running/biking). Although I will use it for that from time to time, I bought mine for farm work & hunting mainly. That said, the headband is a bit odd and can get caught on things. Also, I question the water resistance of this. Working in the rain makes me nervous it will break. I would love to see a more "ruggedized" version of this. If that comes out, it will steal the entire market.
