The Scarpa F1 is the benchmark for fast and light ski touring. This boot sits on the boundary between ultralight and freeride with design features utilized from both respective disciplines. It comes in a lightweight (1260g for a size 27) package with a large range of motion (62°) to effortlessly glide up the skin track. But transition into downhill ski mode to put the truly progressive flex (100 flex) to use turn after turn. The boot's full Grilamid construction (both shell and cuff) provides a consistent flex pattern that other more carbon-crazy, light-boot equivalents can't match. Just look at what boots are used by steep skiing, neo-legend Vivian Bruchez (hint, it's the F1).
The 20/21 F1 has received an updated paint job the Italians designers describe as Anthracite / Ottanio. We're digging the galactic color scheme, but a more pertinent design update for this speed touring classic is its new tongue flap. This update is to assist with putting the boot on more cleanly. In past versions where the tongue and shell meet, the edge could get caught and become annoying when fitting the boot and over time, present some wear issues. The added flap will forgo both of those issues and is an overall better design/fit. Scarpa is all about incremental change towards thoughtfully improving their already great touring boots. This design update surely follows suit. The boot still uses the F1's boa closure system on the lower shell with a velcro-adjusted cuff buckle (plus additional velcro cuff strap) which provide an accurate and variable fit.
So if you are looking for an 'all-arounder' boot that can ski comfortably, both uphill and downhill, say hello to the Scarpa F1.

Comfortable out of the box. After 4 hour tour liner packed out a little, had to use a heaver sock on next climb. Skied will on Dynafit Blacklight 73 skiing down tracked out road. Tough getting into and out of.
Great fit and very comfortable. Jewel at Cripple Creek did a excellent job working with me on which size was best. Very pleased
So far the boots and skis feel great!
I've had ever iteration of this boot and already pre-ordered this one. Pretty similar boot to what I have but I'm really excited about the tongue upgrade and color upgrade. The F1 skis great, is super light, and walks great. Boa system is REVOLUTIONARY. It's so easy to use and makes tightening and loosening the boot a breeze. Can't WAIT to use them!!
