We are incredibly excited to announce our merger with Basalt Bike and Ski. BBS is another amazing local business with the shared focus of getting people outside and into the mountains on gear that is comfortable, confidence-inspiring, and working smoothly.
Founded in 2006 by Joel Mischke, Basalt Bike and Ski quickly rose to be the predominant service center for the Roaring Fork Valley. In 2016, BBS expanded to Carbondale and Aspen to service the entire Roaring Fork Valley. Now, we are proud to combine forces, staffing, and the service-first mindset that fosters and supports our thriving outdoor community.
Year-round bike and ski passions combine
The CCBC staff has long had a passion for mountain, gravel and road biking all summer long. As the years went by, this developed into an all-out obsession that, combined with ski touring, allowed us to travel through the mountains we love year-round. In 2022 we expanded our CCBC summer collection to include gravel and hardtail bike packing bikes out of our Seattle and Denver stores. Our first forays into service and selling bikes were solid, and we knew we wanted to go deeper.
Through our partnership with BBS, we acquire key brands such as Specialized, Giant, Yeti, Santa Cruz, Pivot, Cervelo and Pinarello, as well as over 100 years of combined bike service experience. We plan to add staffing and systems to try to keep up with the massive demand for tunes and information that has strained the cycling community for the last few years.
Future goals for CCBC and BBS
At Cripple Creek Backcountry, we intend to add a digital web presence to make it easier to shop online, schedule service and find information to support our customer's desire to expand their knowledge and the gear needed for the sport. We will be expanding service in our locations of Seattle and Denver and linking our website with Basalt Bike and Ski locations.
Providing excellent mechanical service to the growing bike community requires vast expertise of ever-changing compatibility and complexity for road, gravel, mountain and the exploding demand for e-bikes. We are the premier e-bike sales servicer in the valley––including commuter, mountain, and road e-bikes––to give people that boost over the huge Colorado mountain passes and the amazing service roads and applicable trail networks in the region.
In addition to the service, we set ourselves apart with selection. While most shops have only a few floor models and lengthy wait times to get what you need, we have hundreds of bikes built and ready to ride. With bikes from, Specialized, Giant, Liv, Santa Cruz, Juliana, Pivot, Yeti, Scott, Transition, Cervello, and Pinarello we have a bike for every niche of the two-wheeled world.

The new Basaltbikeandski.com links our inventory from the three local stores and our expanding service stores in Avon, Denver and Seattle that will be operated as Basalt Bikes through the summer months. Not only does this let us reach a larger population of cycling enthusiasts, it also allows us to keep staff year-round to service the various gear while providing sustainable careers in our mountain communities. With organized technical information that will constantly be updated and added to, both the website and bike shops offer education and expertise to help you pick your first bike and keep your bike riding great for years to come.
