The BCA Dozer 2H Shovel is the two-mode shovel in the Dozer line, and the hoe mode is the reason to buy it. Reattaching the blade perpendicular to the shaft turns the shovel into a hoe, which lets a digger sweep debris backward in one motion instead of lifting every load. On a real burial the excavation is almost always the longest phase, and a sweeper working in hoe mode behind the front diggers moves an enormous amount of snow.
An ovo-concave shaft resists bending when prying and gives the palm something to grip. The blade is low profile with a flat stomp edge, so body weight drives it into set debris, and the front third is flat enough to cut clean snowpit walls for stability tests. Auto-engaging spring pins assemble it hands-free, and the neckless blade lies flat in a pack. Designed to meet the UIAA standard for avalanche rescue shovels. Unisex.
