The Petzl Gully Ice Axe is a technical mountaineering and steep skiing axe built to be carried, which is a different design problem from an axe built to be swung all day. A tapered re-curve pick clears well on a swing and releases cleanly when the arm is tired, and the teeth nearest the head are left off so the pick does not shred gloves while plunging up a couloir. The TRIGREST hand rest adjusts without a tool to change hand position on steeper ground. Head options cover an adze for general mountaineering or a hammer for technical work. Unisex.
