The Weston Gnarnia Carbon Splitboard is a lightweight big-mountain splitboard for riders whose objectives are steep and long rather than deep. A tapered directional shape running 310-262-301 mm at 162 cm carries 9 mm of taper, half what the Backwoods runs, and a four-radius sidecut tightening to 7.8 m underfoot holds a line through a turn instead of releasing early. At 2,930 g per board in a 162, on a paulownia and poplar core with vertical aluminum stringers under a carbon layup, the Gnarnia Carbon is built for the day that starts with 4,000 ft of climbing and ends on a technical descent.

Why We Like It
- Nine millimetres of taper is half what the Backwoods carries, and that is the whole character difference: the Gnarnia Carbon keeps its tail engaged through a turn rather than letting it sink, which is what holds a line on a steep, firm face.
- The sidecut runs four radii rather than three, 10 m at the nose through 8.1 and 7.8 m underfoot to 9.1 m at the tail on the 162, so the edge engages progressively instead of grabbing at the contact point.
- Vertical aluminum stringers through the paulownia core add torsional stiffness and damping without weight, which is what keeps a 2,930 g board composed at speed rather than nervous.
- Full perimeter UHMW sidewalls wrap the whole board rather than just the running length, which matters on the rock-strewn transitions and boot-pack scrambles that come with technical objectives.

Splitboard Selection Advice
The Gnarnia Carbon has the widest rider range of the Weston splits CCBB stocks, and the sizes are genuinely distinct rather than incremental. The 151 is rated 105 to 165 lbs on a 24.6 cm waist to a US 8 boot, the 158 is 125 to 185 lbs at 25.6 cm to a US 10, the 162 is 145 to 205 lbs at 26.2 cm to a US 12, and the 162W shares that length at 27.3 cm for boots to US 14. The 162 and 162W ride the same outline and effective edge, so choose between them purely on boot clearance.
One setup detail is easy to miss: the setback is not the same across the run. The 151 is built with 10 mm of setback and the 158, 162 and 162W with 20 mm. A rider moving up from the 151 inherits an extra centimetre of setback in the shape itself, so the stance does not need shifting back to match. Skins are pre-cut and sold separately, and every size takes a different skin: Splitboard Skin 1 for the 151, Skin 3 for the 158, Skin 4 for the 162 and Skin 5 for the 162W.
